To kick off the project, the design team spent several days on-site at The Discovery, meeting closely with the internal exhibits team, as well as groups of native Nevadans, and steering committee members, to determine the desired content, style, visual direction and experience of the new exhibition.
Inspired by natural history museums, and the rugged, layered, and diverse landscape of the state, we created a variety of distinct, yet harmonious, zones within the space: an undulating artifact wall, an intimate, cave-like timeline room, a layered "Story Circle," a striking, angular mining area, and a central, focal installation in which the water of Lake Tahoe has been re-imagined as extracted, floating layers of water that hover above their topographic home.
